WASMO operates under the overall guidance of
a Governing Body that is headed by the Secretary (Water Supply),
Government of Gujarat. Five civil society members have also been
included in the governing body to make it more broad-based.
WASMO's head office is located in
Gandhinagar. It has nine units with their heads reporting to the
CEO. The technical unit is headed by a chief engineer, while all
other units are headed by a senior manager or coordinator.
WASMO's projects are implemented by various field offices known
as Coordination, Monitoring and Support Units (CMSUs) that have
their own Engineering Support Cells (ESCs) and through District
Water and sanitation Committees (DWSCs).
Under the Swajaldhara Programme
of the Government of India and the State Government's Sector Reform
Scheme, WASMO has been identified as the state Water and
sanitation Mission. In each district, there is a District Water
and sanitation Committee (DWSC) headed by a district collector
and an executive engineer of the GWSSB as member secretary for
the implementation of these programmes.
WASMO has set up a
number of committees with external resource persons to enhance
the transparency of its functions and to be in contact with new ideas from civil society.
