Exit Strategy

The Ghogha Project came to an end on June 30, 2005. After completion of physical activities, reducing the local community's dependency on the government will be the most important part of the exit strategy. The follow activities are now underway as exit strategy:

Post-project evaluation

A post-project evaluation is carried out to asses how far the expected results have been achieved and to reveal the impacts of the activities in the project villages on living standards through drinking water and sanitation facilities.

Post-project monitoring

WASMO is closely monitoring the benefits of the project in collaboration with the Implementation Support Agencies and pani samitis in all project villages. These include increased water level at local sources, water quality, distribution of water in the village, changes in water usage, system maintenance and cost recovery, use and maintenance of the infrastructures developed under the project, changes and developments in pani samitis, benefits of water resource management interventions, sanitation, improvement in living condition through availability of water and overall hygiene.

Facility completion team

A Facility Completion Team makes a one-time intervention in all user facilities and strengthen their operation and maintenance.

Documentation

  Two documents are being prepared:

i. Ghogha Experience-II in continuation with Ghogha Experience-I
ii. 'Project Completion Report', which includes technical, financial and social aspects of the project

Closure workshop

A three-day closure workshop was organized between 27 and 29 June, 2005 at Bhavnagar, attended by members of pani samitis, ISAs, and other officials from government departments. The objectives of the workshop were:

i. To enable the pani samitis to work independently of WASMO and ISAs
ii. To ensure proper utilisation, maintenance and sustainability of water supply, water recharging and sanitation facilities that have been created in the villages
iii. To set a suitable water tariff structure to make the system self- sufficient
