The primary objectives of the Ghogha
Project were:
1
Empowering the local
communities and enabling them to create and manage
their own sustainable drinking water and sanitation
systems through village level institutions
2
Reducing the incidence of
water borne diseases by promoting hygienic practices
3
Developing local water
sources and integrating water resource management
systems, such as check dams, with supply systems for
sustainability
4
Taking
benefit from bulk water supply
sources through the Narmada-based Mahi pipeline
network
The project became a
success because of community mobilisation, capacity building,
decentralized decision-making, developing adequately empowered
village level institutions, and cost recovery for operation and
maintenance.
