Significant
changes are happening in Gujarats water and sanitation
sector as a result of a number of farsighted
initiatives. These are the Sardar Sarovar canal drinking
water supply project, post earthquake rehabilitation and
reconstruction works, and the Sujalam Sufalam Yojna.
Combined with the new approach characterized by
community owned and managed, need based and sustainable
in-village water and sanitation infrastructure the
scenario in the states water and sanitation sector is
poised to change. |
| |
|
The process of
change has two important dimensions. On one hand,
large-scale projects that demand engineering
intelligence and project management skills. On the
other, the increasing involvement of the communities
requires intricate social insight. To meet the two ends,
excellent financial and management intellect is the need
of the hour. In a nutshell, the waterfront of Gujarat
was never so vibrant. To maintain the momentum and
achieve the long-term goals, Gujarat has to groom and
develop the sector managers and leaders for the future
water and sanitation sector. Besides, the managers and
leaders in related fields, need to understand and
appreciate the issues involved in the water and
sanitation sector. That will help them to improve the
management and decision making in their own fields. |

|
WASMO believes that water and
sanitation is more than structures and supply. It is a
social platform that is the foundation for sustainable
development. WASMO enters into partnerships with people,
the Government and voluntary organisations, to promote
the integration of traditional knowledge and local
innovations into water resource management, water supply
and environmental sanitation. WASMO offers fresh
graduates the possibility to complement their academic
knowledge with grassroots level experience. WASMO looks
at you! |
| |
| WASMO has launched
an internship programme with the aim to groom well
informed, sensitised water supply and sanitation
engineers and managers that can manage the sector in a
sustainable manner. It offers on the job training for
students taking part in post graduation courses in
engineering, business and environmental management,
social science and other relevant fields. |
| |
|
WASMO believes
that an internship is a worthy experience that can
enhance learning and help an intern acquire knowledge in
a new subject. Putting into practice what has been
learnt in the classroom is critical to the learning
process. WASMO facilitates this process by exposing
interns to on site work in its project villages, field
offices and headquarters where they get real life
experience in the organisations areas of operation and
its modus operandi. Simultaneously, WASMO benefits from
the interns knowledge and fresh ideas. |
| |
|
The WASMO Internship
Programme provides an opportunity to students to
understand the water sector in a holistic manner and
contribute meaningfully and effectively. It provides a
chance for orientation, exposure and training; a chance
to develop future leadership. |
