Drinking water security in the coastal areas of Amreli and Junagadh

The Section B of Sardar Sarovar Canal-based drinking water supply project starting from Vallabhipur (Bhavnagar district) and terminating at Veraval (Junagadh district) caters to the drinking water need of coastal areas of Bhavnagar, Amreli and Junagadh districts. The water demand of 659 villages and 38 towns of 9 talukas of Bhavnagar district, excluding industrial demand, have already been covered under different packages of planned activities.

The water demand of 521 villages and 36 urban centers of Amreli and Junagadh district and industrial demand of all the three districts under Section B is yet to be covered. The current proposal aims at enhancing drinking water security in the coastal areas of Amreli and Junagadh, which suffer from ground water depletion and increase in salinity. It will cater to a population of 17.87 lakh. WASMO proposes to implement the project with the help of Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board (GWSSB), Gujarat Water Infrastructure Company Limited (GWIL) and other related organisations.
