Utthan is an NGO
established in 1981. Its work has evolved over a period of 20
years and is spread across four districts in Gujarat covering
108 villages in the coastal and tribal areas of the state.
Utthans activities are focused on the local environment and
community needs and are consciously designed to encourage
community participation. This principle ensures that equal
opportunity is provided to marginalised sections, particularly
women and vulnerable groups to participate in the decision
making processes, ensuring their access to natural resources and
empowering them through capacity building. When it joined the
Ghogha project as an ISA, Utthan was already working in the area
under its watershed programme. It was made responsible to
provide support to 25 villages in Bhavnagar, Ghogha and
Talaja talukas. |
