Water Resources Management

Gujarat is a drought prone state and water sources are limited and unevenly distributed. To make local water sources sustainable, WASMO gives utmost priority to water resources management and rainwater harvesting through groundwater recharge and surface storage structures. WASMO's Water Resources Management (WRM) cell oversees and assists in the construction of cost effective village level water harvesting structures that arrest monsoon flows and enhance percolation.

Sustainable drinking water supply through WRM

WRM measures to reduce run-off and to recharge and improve the quality of groundwater have been adopted in all project areas. They include construction of check dams, tidal control structures, injection wells, gabion structures, gully plugs, vegetative plugs, ponds and rooftop water harvesting structures. Pasture lands are also being developed to enhance rainwater capture, conserve soil moisture and provide fodder for cattle.

Water resources management plays a major part in WASMO's Ghogha and Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction projects.
